The support program

1. The safe environment

All of the following items are clearly pointed out in the Teaching Guide which that can be downloaded in PDF format. 

Reviewing the Teaching Program and its follow-up will allow you to create a quality program which answers to the specific needs of the person.

1- Identifying the tutor tandem

Identify the tutor tandem that will build, follow and evaluate the educational and support project: : teacher/psychologist, teacher/parent, healthcare provider/psychologist, etc.

2- Identifying the person of confidence

Of the tandem, identify the person of confidence that will become the tutor and who be doing the one-on-one educational work. Generally, this tutor is of the same sex as the person being accompanied, so as to be able to relate more easily to one another’s bodies and how they function. If there seems to be a risk of this work together causing sexual arousal (homosexual orientation), in this case, the tutor should be of the opposite sex.

The same place should always be used for do this educational work.

  • A neutral place for the person

  • Is the bedroom an appropriate place or is it to be avoided?

  • Choose a place where privacy can be assured: close the door, lock the door, close the curtains, avoid being seen by passers-by

  • The teaching and support material can be readily available

5- Determine the regularity of the teaching time

Determine how often the teaching time takes place: every day, every two or three days, once per week.

Choose a specific and appropriate time – which does not change – that will facilitate this learning and support time.

6- Determine how long the session will last

Determine how long each session will last depending on the person’s attention and behavior capacities.

7- Determine the time available for the tandem

Determine the time available for the tandem to discuss the progression, evaluate the teaching tools, the suitability of the safe environment, place, time, regularity, etc.
